How Oval Braided Rugs Can Look Brand New for Years to Come

Oval braided rugs are a great way to accent a room. They add color and depth to the room and they help to tie together any decorative theme in your home. However these braided rugs are not usually a cheap item to purchase and after taking all the necessary time to find just the right shape, size and color for your home you are going to want to keep it looking brand new. So when you first bring home your braided oval rug make sure you begin to take care of it immediately.

The first step to this is to make sure that you unwrap the rug carefully. Oval braided area rugs are generally shipped wrapped in plastic and rolled very tightly. This method makes sure that the braided rug is protected throughout its journey to your home. Once you get it home make sure you lay it in an area big enough for the entire rug. Then carefully remove the plastic, make sure if you are using a knife or scissors that you use extreme caution as cutting the rug will make it weaker and decrease its lifespan.

Once you have the plastic off gently unroll it. Most of the time when these oval braided rugs are unrolled they will have roll marks on them and not readily lie flat. This is completely normal and should be expected. Stretch out the rug and let it naturally begin to lie flat. As anxious are you are to get your new rug in place it is much better for your rug if you don't push the issue and just wait patiently for it to flatten out.

After it has regained its natural shape you can consider putting it in place. When putting it in place you may want to consider putting down a slip guard or non slip pad underneath it. This works in two ways, first it keep the rug in place and secondly, because it is not moving around as it is being walked on it saves on the wear and tear on the underneath of the rug.

Keeping oval braided rugs in good shape and clean is relatively easy. Start by vacuuming the rug regularly, this means at a minimum once a week. This removes dirt and dust and keeps it from getting ground into rug. Do not take your braided rug outside and shake it or beat it. This is not a good idea, it will weaken the seams and the material and this type of cleaning is really a bad misconception that was taken from old movies depicting early American history. Try to remember these women did not have vacuum cleaners!

Along with regular vacuuming also make sure that you rotate the rug. This will help to keep the rug from wear in just one area and help to keep the rug in great shape. If something happens to spill on it make sure you clean it up quickly as this will help to prevent staining. By doing this it will prolong having to have it professionally cleaned as most manufacturers recommend that you do not try to clean oval braided rugs by yourself. Oval braided rugs are an investment in your home that you want to last for years to come and these tips should help you do just that.
